Malaysia is a country that will surprise you every minute. You will find it to be the perfect place for a vacation, with a rich mix of culture, untouched islands, and fascinating historical sites, all set in a wondrous tropical paradise.

The most common place to start your Malaysian holiday is in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city. The architecture here is majestic and graceful, with a rare mix of styles from both East and West. Colonial-style homes stand nearby amazing mosques and temples. You’ll find the capital city to be very clean and picturesque, with plenty of green spaces even in the heart of downtown. Though the city itself is quite populous, you can start to get a glimpse of the natural wonders that Malaysia has to offer before venturing out too far. Lake Gardens, a very popular park for visitors and residents alike, offers a botanical garden that is one of the best in the world.
To visit Kuala Lumpur is to visit the world, with many different peoples and cultures coming together in this truly world-class city.

Getting out of the City

Batu Caves, MalaysiaThe Batu Caves are close enough to visit while you are still staying in Kuala Lumpur. These caves attract large numbers of tourists every year. Get ready for some walking, there’s a steep staircase—but you’ll be rewarded with some amazing sights and sounds when you get there. The caves are actually one of the largest Hindu shrines in Asia, and is the locale of the Thaipusam Hindu festival. The incredible cave temples feature incredible shrines and statues. Jungle Trekking MalaysiaStatues of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman aren’t the only monkeys you will see. Around the Batu Caves as well as throughout the country, you will encounter wild macaque monkeys. Feed them at your peril, although they are accustomed to humans, they do occasionally bite. If you find yourself with several monkeys nearby, keep a tight grip on your purse or shopping bags, they have been known to grab and run.
For a greater look at wildlife and jungle terrain though, there are two places that shouldn’t be missed, and they are the Taman Negara National Park, and the Borneo rainforest. Taman Negara, one of the oldest rain forest jungles in the world, is the perfect place for a guided jungle trek. The Borneo rainforest is one of the most popular attractions, and here, you can take a jungle trek or quick nature walk, go white water rafting. Several package tours to Borneo are available, and if you go, take a visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary.
Then get out of the rainforest and onto the beach—Malaysia has some of the most beautiful beaches in Asia, with clean, white sand and surf, and plenty of vendors to serve your every need as you relax. Divers from all over the world come to Malaysia to take advantage of some spectacular dive spots, and even beginners can enjoy the underwater view after just one or two lessons.
