Wolvendaal Church

Wolvendaal Church, Colombo is recognized as one of the oldest and ancient churches in the city. The famous Protestant Church is one of the must visits in the city of Colombo.Wolvendaal Church in Colombo is one of the churches that was reformed by the Dutch. The church had been set up by the Dutch when they took over the administration of Colombo and its suburbs. The place where this famous church was established was occupied by a Roman Catholic Church, called St. Francis Church. But the Dutch decided to erect the Wolvendaal Church in the former Gordon Gardens in Colombo Fort. After the decision was taken, the church was named after the place where it was established, Wolvendaal. One of the main features of the structure is its exclusive Doric architectural style. It is a mute representation of the Dutch colonial architecture. The materials used for building the church were local and also the local labor was used supported by the technical skill of the Dutch construction engineers. The structure features an important architectural style including a high roof that resembles a dome. The surrounding walls are strong and made of coral and lime plaster. The Dutch tombstones along the church were some of the interesting sights that the visitors should not miss to see.

Independence Memorial Museum

From the beginning of Sri Lankan civilization till the present times for about 25 centuries, the service rendered by the Sri Lankans to uplift and sustain their political, economical, social, cultural and human freedom is immense. The Viharamahadevi Park

The Viharamahadevi Park is a public park is situated in front of the colonial style Town Hall building. It is named after the mother of King Dutugamunu, Viharamahadevi. The park was built during the British rule of Sri Lanka, and was originally named "Victoria Park" after Queen Victoria. The park features include a huge Buddha statue and a series of water fountains. It also includes a mini zoo, and a children's play area.
